The National Primate Research Centers (NPRCs) improve health by conducting research that leads to new ways of preventing, diagnosing and treating diseases. Researchers at the NPRCs have:
- Advanced vaccines and therapies for HIV/AIDS, COVID-19, Zika virus and other infectious diseases
- Improved understanding of chronic and neurodegenerative conditions, such as diabetes, Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease
- Pioneered organ transplantation techniques and other life-saving procedures; and
- Developed new tools for personalized medicine, helping doctors tailor treatments to individual patients
Through these contributions, the NPRCs play a vital role in bringing scientific breakthroughs from the lab to healthcare providers’ offices — ultimately helping people live longer, healthier lives.
