The NPRCs invest in new methods and technologies to help researchers  study diseases  with as few animals as possible. These new approach methodologies (NAMs) include:

  • Computer models that simulate how diseases or drugs affect the body
  • Organs-on-a-chip technology that mimics how human organs function
  • 3D cell cultures that allow scientists to study diseases at the cellular level

NAMs can’t fully replace living systems, but they provide valuable insights that complement traditional research procedures.
